Roof repairs we have completed

What it is
A roof repair is only worth paying for if it addresses the point where water is actually getting in. Water travels — the wet patch on the ceiling is rarely underneath the defect.
Most repairs we are called to in Havant and Portsmouth fall into a short list: slipped or cracked tiles, nail fatigue dropping tiles in runs, failed flashing at a chimney or abutment, split lead in a valley, cracked ridge or verge mortar, blocked or broken guttering pushing water back under the eaves, and storm damage after a south-westerly. Each of those leaves a different signature, and that is what we look for.
We inspect from the loft as well as the covering wherever access allows. Staining runs, damp battens, daylight and drip lines tell us where water is entering and which way it is travelling before it appears indoors. On steep, high or awkward roofs we use a drone survey rather than guessing from the ground, so nothing is diagnosed from a pair of binoculars.
You then get photographs of what we found, an explanation of why it is happening, and a fixed written price for putting it right. If the honest answer is that the covering is finished and repairs are throwing money away, we will tell you that too and quote the alternative — but we will never invent a re-roof out of a repair.
For storm damage and active leaks the phone is answered around the clock. We can make a roof safe and watertight quickly, then return to complete a permanent repair in daylight and reasonable weather. An emergency call-out fee applies, starting at £50, and may vary depending on travel distance.
Homeowners with a leak, a stain or missing tiles; landlords who need a tenant's problem resolved quickly; anyone who has had a repair fail and wants it diagnosed properly this time.
After a storm, when a ceiling stain appears or grows, when tiles or fragments of mortar land in the garden, when a chimney breast shows damp, or when guttering overflows at one corner every time it rains.
Roof work is height work. Beyond the fall risk, a badly bedded tile or a smear of mastic over a failed flashing hides the problem and lets it rot timbers quietly for years before it reappears indoors.
Inspection, photographic report, fixed written price, the repair itself, a check of the surrounding details, debris cleared and completion photographs so you can see what changed.
What ignoring it costs
A single slipped tile lets in a surprising amount of water over a wet Hampshire winter, and almost none of the cost lands on the roof. It lands on plaster, insulation, decoration, electrics and timber.
Wet loft insulation stops insulating. You pay for the damp, then you pay for the heat you lose while it stays damp, and it will not dry out on its own once the roof keeps topping it up.
Water follows rafters and battens away from the entry point. What starts as one damp batten becomes several rafter ends, and timber repair is the most expensive part of any roof job.
Insurers distinguish between sudden storm damage and gradual deterioration. Leave a known defect through a winter and a claim that would have been straightforward can become an argument about maintenance.
Our process
Covering, loft, flashings, valleys and gutters checked by ladder, scaffold or drone — not diagnosed from the pavement.
We trace the water back to the entry point and photograph it, then explain in plain terms what failed and why.
A clear quote for the repair, including any related detail that will fail next if it is left alone. You decide before we start.
Tiles, flashings, lead, mortar or gutters replaced or reformed properly, using the right materials for the covering rather than a patch.
The repair is checked, debris cleared, completion photographs sent and your workmanship guarantee confirmed in writing.
What you get
The phone is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Storm damage does not wait for Monday morning and neither do we.
Photographic evidence of the actual entry point means you are paying to fix a cause, not to try something and see whether the ceiling dries out.
Repairing early keeps the job on the roof. Leaving it moves the cost inside the house, where plaster, decoration and timber quickly outstrip the original repair.
If a repair genuinely solves it, we quote the repair. If the covering is finished, we say so and show you why, so you can make one decision instead of five.
Loose tiles and cracked ridge mortar over a path or driveway are a hazard. Making them safe is part of the job, not an extra.
Dated photographs of storm damage and of the completed repair give you something concrete to submit if you are making a claim.
In detail
Coastal Hampshire weather produces a predictable set of failures. Knowing the pattern is what makes a repair quick to find and permanent once fixed.
“From start to finish, the service provided was excellent. It is clear that they take great pride in their work and genuinely care about making sure their customers are happy with the finished result. There was no pressure, and I felt confident that I was receiving genuine advice and a fair price. They were also respectful of the property and left everything clean and tidy once the work was finished.”
Individual tiles are replaced like for like, bedded or clipped as the covering requires. Where slipping is caused by nail fatigue — rusted fixings letting go across a whole area — replacing one tile is a false economy, and we will show you the run of fixings so you can see why re-fixing a section is the better spend.
Where a roof meets a chimney, a parapet or a wall, lead flashing does the sealing. Failed flashings are the single most common leak we attend. We replace with correctly coded lead, chased and wedged into the mortar joint and repointed, rather than sealing over the top with mastic that will crack again within a couple of seasons.
Valleys carry the water off two roof planes at once, so when a lead valley splits or a fibreglass valley cracks, the volume of water entering is significant. Repairs are made in the correct lengths with proper laps and clips so the lead can move with temperature instead of fatiguing and splitting again.
Cracked and hollow-sounding mortar bedding on ridge and hip tiles lets water in along the top of the roof and drops fragments into the garden. We re-bed or, where it makes better long-term sense, convert to a mechanically fixed dry-ridge system that ventilates and will not crack out again.
After a south-westerly we deal with lifted and stripped tiles, displaced ridge tiles, torn felt at the eaves and damaged flashings. First visit makes the roof safe and watertight; the permanent repair follows in workable weather. Everything is photographed at both stages for your insurer.
Not every leak is a tile. Blocked or fallen guttering pushes water back into the fascia and wall, and a failed flat roof on a bay or extension shows up as damp on an upstairs ceiling. See our flat roofs and fascias and guttering pages for how we handle those, and our chimney work page for leaks tracked to a stack.
On houses the priority is finding the cause quickly with minimum disruption. On commercial premises it is keeping the building open and dry — we work around trading hours, make safe first, and phase permanent work so a business does not close.
Once perished membrane, widespread nail fatigue and multiple failing details appear together, repairs stop holding for long. At that point we will say so and quote a re-roof as the alternative, with the photographs to justify it — you are never asked to take that judgement on trust.

It depends entirely on what has failed and how the roof is accessed, so we price each repair individually and give you a fixed written figure after a free inspection. There is no charge for looking, and the price we quote is the price you pay unless the scope changes with your agreement.
Inspections and quotes are free. The exception is a genuine out-of-hours emergency call-out, which starts at £50 and may vary depending on travel distance — that covers coming out immediately to make the roof safe and watertight.
The phone is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and we are locally based, which is the main reason we can respond quickly to storm damage across Havant, Emsworth, Portsmouth and the surrounding area.
Many repairs are completed in a single visit. Larger work — a section re-fixed, a valley replaced, scaffold required — takes longer, and we tell you the expected duration with the quote rather than after we have started.
Usually, yes. Water travels along timbers before it appears on a ceiling, which is why leaks get misdiagnosed. We inspect the loft as well as the covering and use a drone survey where access makes proper inspection difficult, then show you the photographs of the entry point.
Yes. We provide a workmanship guarantee, and the cover varies by job type, so the exact terms for your repair are confirmed in writing with the quote.
A properly executed repair on a sound covering should last for years, not months. Where the covering itself is at the end of its life, we will tell you honestly that a repair is a holding measure and roughly what you can expect from it before you spend anything.
We photograph storm damage before and after the work and provide a written scope, which is what insurers usually ask for. We cannot handle the claim itself, but the evidence we supply is the part most people struggle to produce.
Yes — flat roofs, fascias, soffits, guttering, chimneys and leadwork are all handled by the same team, so one firm covers whatever the inspection turns up rather than passing you to someone else.
The phone is answered at any hour, every day of the week, and emergency work is attended outside normal hours. Planned repairs are scheduled with you around a date that suits.
